The Second Sunday Ride is all about having an adventure by bicycle. Each month our rides explore scenic, historic, cultural, and other interesting places or events.
Most rides are within an hour's drive of Auburn, Alabama.
No rides are too long or fast. We tailor them to fit about anyone. Join us!

Providence Canyon and Florence Marina State Parks

Park yer car at Florence Marina State Park and ride an invigorating ten miles uphill to Providence Canyon State Park. Explore the canyon by strolling along the top or hike through it. Then, an easy, ten-mile downhill ride back to Florence Marina. Enjoy your picnic lunch at Florence Marina and explore the Park. This ride will suit anyone, so bring yer family. Those who don't prefer invigorating rides uphill can carpool up to the Canyon, explore the canyon, and then, if you brought your bike up, an invigorating downhill ride back to Florence.

Meet at Florence Marina at 10:30 AM Georgia time/9:30 AM Auburn time. Leave yer lunch in the car at Florence Marina and bring snacks up to Providence. Some prefer to buy lunch at Omaha Brewing Company (food truck) on the way home.

Parking at the Parks is $10 per car. Buy passes at either place and hang the tag in yer car. The tag is good at both parks. This is enforced. The Parks also offer annual passes good at all Georgia Parks.

Date: April 12.
Time: 10:30 AM EDT / 9:30 AM CDT at Florence Marina State Park. The drive from Auburn/Opelika is a bit over 1 hour, so leave around 8:00 AM Auburn time.
Road Conditions: All paved. Any bikes/tires will do. From Florence Marina to Providence Canyon, it’s ten miles mostly uphill. Going back, it’s mostly downhill. Those not riding up to the Canyon can drive or carpool to the top. Bring yer bikes if you want to ride back down.
Bring: Water. Picnic lunch and snacks. Walkin’ shoes. $10 per car for parking.

From Auburn / Opelika, take Moores Mill Rd., Marvin Pkwy, etc. to AL-169S.
Take AL-169S about 20 miles to US-431S.
Right 8.6 miles to Pittsview Hwy.
Left 1.3 miles to Cottonton Rd.
Left 9.5 miles on Cottonton Rd./Omaha Rd./SR-39 Spur to SR-39.
Right 4 miles to Canyon Rd. Florence Marina State Park is on the right.
When you enter the Park, the first left turn is to a parking area near the river. Be sure to buy a parking pass if you're leaving a car.
