About Gettysburg
The Battle of Gettysburg was a turning point in the Civil War, the Union victory that ended General Robert E. Lee's second and most ambitious invasion of the North. Often referred to as the "High Water Mark of the Rebellion", Gettysburg was the Civil War's bloodiest battle and was also the inspiration for President Abraham Lincoln's immortal "Gettysburg Address".
Arrange your own transportation to Gettysburg. We are gathering in the area Friday, May 26 to ride on Saturday and Sunday. We will be riding on paved, bicycle-friendly roads through the Park and the Gettysburg area. Most folks are planning to leave Gettysburg on Monday to return to Auburn or to continue their adventures elsewhere.
Riding the Battlefield
Bicycles are welcome in Gettysburg both in the National Park and in the outside area. Many roads are bike-friendly. Traffic can be heavy in places so we need to follow the normal traffic rules.
Our riding will mostly follow the established auto route in the Park. All roads are paved. I've got an 18-mile route marked out. There are many side roads to explore if we want.
