Murfreesboro Weekend
October 7–9, 2022
The Second Sunday Ride returns to Tennessee this October.
Murfreesboro is about five hours from Auburn/Opelika, between Chattanooga and Nashville. Stones River flows along and through it, providing a great place for a greenway. An important Civil War battle took place here and a National Battlefield provides history, scenery, and some nice riding just off of the Greenway. A college town, there are plenty of restaurants, breweries, and other interesting places.
The City of Murfreesboro, TN says…
The Murfreesboro Greenway System consists of 15 miles of trails, bridges, and boardwalks for enjoying Murfreesboro's beautiful natural setting. Sixteen trailheads along the seven greenway sections provide access for hiking, walking, running, wading, bicycling, skating, nature photography, picnicking, birdwatching, fishing, and many other outdoor activities for individuals of all abilities. Three small watercraft launch points - two on the West Fork Stones River and one on the East Fork Stones River - provide access to the Stones River for paddlers, and two bark parks allow off-leash exercise for your canine pals.
The Murfreesboro Greenway System also connects historical sites, parks, neighborhoods, and businesses and serves as a conservation corridor to preserve precious natural and cultural resources.
Our Weekend Itinerary
Friday Evening
Gather in Murfreesboro, about five hours drive from Auburn. In the evening, meet up at a restaurant for grub and grog, tall tales, and planning for the weekend.
Saturday
We'll be riding the Murfreesboro Stones River Greenway System, beginning at Barfield Crescent Park, the south terminus. The Greenway is about 11 miles long with some spurs that connect to the Stones River National Battlefield and other points of interest. There are a number of trailheads along the way that offer restrooms, water, etc. Restaurants, breweries, and shopping are accessible by bike from the Trail. Plan to grab lunch somewhere off of the trail.
Total distance for the entire ride will probably be around 25–30 miles. It will be a generally out-and-back ride, so ride as far as you like before returning to your car. In the evening, we'll meet up at a restaurant for grub and grog, tall tales, etc.
