Old Cahawba

It is our National Bike Yer Park ride, where we join cyclists around the country riding and appreciating our parks. This event is sponsored by Adventure Cycling and the National Park Service.
Old Cahawba Archaeological Park is the site of the first capital of Alabama. Today, Cahawba is an important archaeological site and an authentic ghost town with picturesque ruins and rare natural features [Alabama Historical Commission]. The Park has about five miles of paved and gravel roads that provide good cycling to explore the sites and viewpoints.
We will be given a guided bicycle tour by the Park staff. The tour is about two hours. The cost is $8 per person.
Lunch afterwards, if you like, at The Sand Bar at the Selma City Marina.

Time: 10:00 am – Meet Old Cahawba Archaeological Park.
Road Conditions – Old Cahawba roads are a mixture of paved and good-quality gravel. About five miles of riding.
Bring: Water. Camera. Walking footwear. Snacks. Treasure for Old Cahawba admission ($8 per person), gift shop, and lunch.

Take I-85 S to Mongtomery
Take I-65 S four miles to U.S. 80 E (Exit 167)
Continue on U.S. 80 W into Selma.
Left onto Dallas Ave. / U.S. 80 W/AL 22 for 8.6 miles to CR 9
Left onto CR 9 3.4 miles to Cahaba Rd.
Left onto Cahaba Rd. one mile to the Park.
Park at the Visitors Center. Admission to the Park and the guided tour is $8 per person.
From Old Cahawba to The Sand Bar restaurant (about 20 minutes)
Leave Old Cahawba and turn right onto CR.
Turn right onto CR 22/U.S 80 for 7.5 miles.
Turn right onto Marina Dr. for 0.5 miles (past the sewage treatment plant).
Turn left onto Marina Dr. for about 700 ft.
The Sand Bar is on your left.
