Fort Toulouse and Wetumpka Impact Crater

Fort Toulouse - Fort Jackson Park is a National Historic Landmark maintained by the Alabama Historic Commission. It is located near Wetumpka where the Coosa and Tallapoosa Rivers join to form the Alabama River.
The Wetumpka Impact Crater is a 5-mile wide crater formed 85 million years ago by a meteor the size of a football stadium. It is one of the few above-ground impact crater locations in the world.
The ride will start at Fort Toulouse - Fort Jackson, head into the crater, and go through historic Wetumpka before returning to the Fort. The ride is an easy, 16-mile ride with an optional 2-mile steep loop into the center of the impact crater.
After the ride, eat a picnic lunch in the Park, explore Forts Toulouse and Jackson, and walk to the end of the park where the Coosa and Tallapoosa Rivers meet and join the Alabama.

Time: 9:00 CDT at Fort Toulouse. Park in front of the Visitors Center.
Road Conditions: All paved. Any bikes/tires will be fine.
Bring: Admission to Fort Toulouse is $2 per adult. Water. Bring a picnic lunch.

- From Auburn, drive west on AL 14 for about 45 miles to AL 170.
- Left on AL 170 about one mile to US 231.
