Horseshoe Bend National Military Park
Saturday, September 25, 2021
It’s that time of year when town fills up with fans, bands playing, war eagles flying … It’s time to Get Out Of Dodge for a G.O.O.D. Ride.
Horseshoe Bend National Military Park is the site of the 1814 battle between General Andrew Jackson and Indian allies against Chief Menawa and the Red Stick Creek Indians. The Park has a nice Visitors Center with a museum and short movie and a nice, 3-mile route through the battlefield.
We'll start at the Visitors Center, then ride through the Park, stopping at several points of interest. After the 3–mile park loop, choose from two additional ride options on quiet county roads and/or a hike through the battlefield:
• An easy, 10–mile out-and-back ride. PDF | Ride With GPS
• A not so easy, 20–mile loop. PDF | Ride With GPS
• Walk the 3–mile nature trail through the battlefield.
After that, lunch, if you like, at Niffer's Place Lake Martin. Outdoor seating is available.
National Bike Your Park Day is sponsored by Adventure Cycling. If you register for the ride (through the Adventure Cycling web site) you’ll be entered in a drawing for a bike.
Date: Saturday, September 25, 2021.
Time: 10:00 am at the Park Visitor Center.
Road Conditions: All paved. Any bikes/tires will be fine.
Bring: Water. Snacks. Treasure for lunch at Niffer’s afterwards.
